5th Grade Timberwolves are the role models of our school @ Hicks Elementary and have been given guardianship of the Library. In accepting this, they have adopted shelves and will protect, feed and keep them organized for the 2016-2017 school year. Each student wrote their names, grade and teacher and adopted their first shelf this week. They may, of course, "extend their family" if they prove proper parents. Mrs. Burges, our Library Aide, gives weekly kudos to those outstanding shelf keepers.
Feeding Your Shelf
Now that our 5th Graders have mastered putting their books in order withMrs. Lodge's Library Shelver Game, they are put to the test as they must choose books from the Shelving Carts to "feed" to their baby shelves. Fiction/Everybody are always alphabetical while Non-Fiction is numerical by Dewey Decimal numbers and then by author.
Adorn Your Shelf
Students will have a chance to genrefy and/or categorize their shelf by creating a visual sign to let others know what type of books live there. 5th grade has already discussed in class genres such as:
